Less slavishly retro than the work of his former band, the album seemingly channeled the spirit of Prince, Marc Bolan, and Roxy Music. The end result was a sound not unlike Goldfrapps 2006 album, SUPERNATURE--in short 1960s melodies, 1970s glam-rock beats, and 1980s synth-driven electronica.
